About the artist
R. Michael Phillips is a classically trained, award winning artist living in South Carolina. He has been painting professionally for over 40 years, developing and honing his talent; experimenting in watercolor, egg tempera, and oils along the way. As shown in the work displayed in this site, his work in both egg tempera and oils are visionary portrayals of the world around him. Most works are completed in his studio, but you may find him with his easel out and about along the back roads of the Carolinas. His first commission was a portrait of William Penn for the city of Philadelphia for the bicentennial. Since then, his work has been exhibited at the International Exhibition of Miniature Art in Toronto, Canada; Miniature Art Society of New Jersey; The Mitchell Gallery at St. John’s College, Annapolis, Maryland; Gallery 120, Clover, SC; and Southern Arts Society, Kings Mountain, NC, GCAG Miniature Show, to name a few. His paintings are also in private collections throughout the US and parts of Europe.
